บทคัดย่อ          

This is a prospective study at Chonburi Regional Hospital during November 15, 1993 to January 7, 1994.

The purpose of this study is to determine the frequency of infectious diseases occurring among HIV seropositive/AIDS adult patients in both sexes. There are total 727 beds in this hospital and 138 beds in the medical ward. Total out patients were admitted to the medical, ear, nose and throat ward and from outpatient department. 

All 40 study patients presented with different infections manifestations. Other problems not related to infectious such as surgical problems, accident, drowning and poisoning were excluded.

We enrolled the patients with HIV seropositivity determined by ELISA (two times) and confirmed by western blot.

The method of collecting information on each patients ‘demographics, risk factor status, education, occupation, clinical manifestations are according to the clinical record sheets. After that they were undergone complete physical examination. All necessary laboratory investigation ware recorded.

                Form this study, the most common presenting symptoms were general symptoms (95%), gastrointestinal symptoms (82.5%), neurological symptoms (80%), the least common was cardiovascular symptoms (2.5%). The common infectious diseases found in 40 study patients were oral candidiasis (57.5%), tuberculosis (27.5%), Cryptococcus meningitis (20%) and Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (17.5%)
