บทคัดย่อ
The
research of ‘Management Cultural Diversity in Five-Star Hotel in Bangkok; the
Case Study of the InterContinental, Bangkok’ is design to critically analyze
the way in which cultural diversity is managed at the InterContinental Hotel in
Bangkok as well as to critically review the literature about managing cultural
diversity in the Asia Pacific region as well as in Thailand in order to
identify the elements that will manage the cultural diversity with in the
InterContinental Bangkok. The literature and theoretical base of the research
were base on firstly the Hofstadter’s ‘Five Cultural Dimensions’ which comsist
of Small vs. Large Power Distance’ (PDI) and ‘Uncertainty Avoidance’ (UAI).His
third and forth dimension are ’Individualism and Collectivism’(IDV) and
‘Masculinity versus femininity ‘ (MAS). Lastly, his most recent dimension is
the theory of’ long term versus Short Term Orientation’ (LTO)
More
over, Trompenaars and Hampden ‘Cultural
Dimensions’ which base on ‘Universal Problems’ as they believe that
everything have concern with it. The
theory was bas on three fundamental problems which are social theractions that
concerns with Neural versus Affective, Individualism versus Communitarianism,
Universalism versus Particularism and Specificity versus Diffusness, Passage of
time that concern with time orientation (past-present-future, Sequential and
synchronic) and lastly Relationship to the environment Inner versus Outer
Directedness.
Furthermore,
lane Disterfano and Maznevski’s Value Orientation ‘that concerns with six main
issues firstly the Activity that contains these three variances Doing, Being.
And Thinking. Secondly Relationship
issue the consist of Individual, Group and Hierarchical. Moreover, the Human
Nature issue that concern with Good, Evil and Changeability. Furthermore, it’s
also involved with Environment that concern with Mastery, Harmony and
Subjugation. In addition, the Time orientation that will concern with Past,
Present and Future; Lastly the Space which concern with Public, Private and
Mixed. Lastly, the five Obstacles that Cause to Ineffective Communication from
Smite(1998) that include serial communication, status differences, social
conformity, spatial distance and defensiveness.
